It’s been several weeks since I was able to post to this blog, but I’ve been very busy just trying to keep up with current developments. First of all, as I announced on my Facebook page, the auction that took place for the Big Apple Circus equipment, name, and trademarks was won by Compass Partners […]
Dear friends and family, There will be an auction on February 7th for the physical assets and the trademarked name of the Big Apple Circus. This is very exciting for me personally, as it gives me hope that the Big Apple Circus could be revived under new management. No matter what, I’m excited to open […]
At this point, the Big Apple Circus has fallen short of the funding we needed for the Save the Circus campaign so that it looks like we will not be able to open a new show at Lincoln Center as planned in October. It’s the first time in 36 years that we will be unable […]
In my last communication, I stated that the Big Apple Circus had managed to raise $800,000 since launching the Save the Circus campaign. Indeed, as of today, July 18, I’ve been informed that there is more than $960,000 raised or pledged to help save the circus.
The front page article of the Metropolitan section of the New York Times on Sunday, June 5 was an article by columnist Ginia Bellafante titled “Can the Big Apple Circus Be Saved.” (Click here to read the column.) Shelley and I rang in the new year under the Big Top at the Big Apple Circus’s annual New Year’s Eve Celebration. On New Year’s Eve, the circus starts later than usual so that the performance ends fifteen minutes before midnight. And as the clock counts down, champagne cups are filled (the little ones get […]
This past weekend was the annual Big Apple Circus Family Benefit. It’s a terrific event where supporters of our not-for-profit circus get to see the year’s show and interact with the performers. Before the performance of Metamorphosis kids were invited to join Clown Care Unit members in the reception tent where they get to learn […]
I’m thrilled that the Big Apple Circus‘s new show “Metamorphosis” received an amazing review in the New York Times. The review (“Contortions, Clowning and Confetti”) had wonderful things to say about both the production and the company. “You could say this impressive production starts modestly, only to spread its wings and soar.” “This company, now in its […]
Daniel Cyr is a master acrobat and circus performer. He invented and popularized an apparatus called the “Cyr Wheel” after debuting it in 2003 at the “Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain” in Paris (for which he won the Silver Medal). The Cyr wheel is a single, large, metal hoop inside which the acrobat stands, […]
As many of you know, I love good clowns and the Big Apple Circus has always presented the best in the world. Amongst those is the funny man now performing in the Big Apple Circus ring – Rob Torres. He has that special something “x”, that “je ne sais quoi”, which, to a fun-seeking audience, […]
